| Bowl
For Kids Sake - Curt Kempf |
 |
|
Update:
As some of you might already know, my mom registered me
as a little brother in Big Brothers/Big Sisters when I was
10 years old. Later in life I too became a big brother to
a little. BB/BS This program works and we need your help.
Please help us by joining one of Rotary South's teams. You
don't need to be a bowler. You can use two hands if you
want :)
---------------
Big
Brothers/Big Sister's largest fundraiser of the year is
our Bowl For Kids Sake, held March 19th & 20th, 2010.
I have a huge favor to ask of Rotary South: Can we assemble
two teams of five bowlers each and enter this year's fundraiser?
As you might already know, my mom entered me into the program
when I was about 10 years old, and I've also been fortunate
enough to be a Big Brother to a little as well. BB/BS has
been in Boone County for over 40 years thanks to supporters
like us. Please help me and offer to take one of the 10
positions on either of Rotary South's two teams. You do
not have to be considered a "bowler" to participate.
It will be fun to have both Rotary South teams, side
by side, lane by lane, bowling against each other. Next,
we'll have to come up with names for each team. Please
call me or Paul Toler if you have any questions about this.
More information is attached. The bowling and pizza are
free. Each team of 5 is asked to raise/donate $300/team.
Roterac and Sunrise-Rotary both have two teams entered.
The remaining chapters are being communicated to and encouraged
to enter teams also. Additionally, we are going to try and
have all Rotary chapters scheduled to bowl at the same time,
lane by lane, to make it a lot of fun. We presently have
about 4 or 5 bowlers from our chapter who have said they
would bowl. We need 5 or 6 more. Please help fill
these spots.
Thanks,

Missouri RYLA Acadamy, by Brian Harrison |
 |
|
2010
Missouri RYLA Acadamy is coming up soon! It will be
June 27-30 at Williams Woods University in Fulton,
Missouri. This academy is a 3 ½ day program that
includes an introduction to Rotary’s “Service Above Self”,
along with youth programs, team activities, leadership skills
training and personality self-assessment. The students are
nominated and encouraged to apply through recommendations
of Rotarians and high school faculty & administrators.
It is preferred that they are either incoming or outgoing
high school sophomores. Rotary needs the student’s applications
by March 1st. I am asking any
of our Rotary members that know a young person, whether
it be a son, daughter, grandchild, neighbor etc… that they
would like to nominate, please forward their name and address
to Brian Harrison, RYLA Committee Chair, at his email address:

1) KMOS-TV's
"Kids Day": I'm passing along this inquiry
from Louise Beasley about KMOS-TV's "Kids Day"
which will be held on June 19th
in Columbia. Please see the attached flyer for additional
information. There is an informational meeting on Feb.10th.
This appears to be an activity in which many of our Rotarians
would have an interest (family, kids, literacy, etc.). We
need some volunteers for the attached. Any chance the Rotary's
in Columbia could help us out?

| World
Community Service - International Project Visit Opportunity |
 |

To:
Club Presidents - District 6080
From: Paul Reinert - District 6080 World Community Service
Chair
Subject: International Travel Opportunity - Ecuador
Several Rotary Clubs in our District have joined with District
6080, the Rotary Club Chillos Milenio in Quito, Ecuador
and District 4400 on a project to fund needed equipment
and infrastructure improvements at the Yachana Technical
High School located in the Amazon region of Eastern Ecuador.
I have visited the area and am very familiar with the Yachana
Foundation, its high school, and its other services to the
people of this remote region. I will lead a trip to visit
Ecuador and the Yachana Lodge from April
1 - April 8 and welcome up to 12 Rotarians and guests
to join me on this trip. We will be hosted by Douglas McMeekin,
the founder and Executive Director of the Yachana Foundation
who also is a close personal friend of mine. The details
of the trip are included in the attached document. I have
made presentations on my experiences in Ecuador to several
of our district clubs and would welcome the opportunity
to answer any questions that members may have concerning
our project, the Foundation or our trip. I promise an exciting
and safe adventure for those interested at a reasonable
cost.
Best Rotarian regards,
Paul Reinert
